"We attended the Family Archive Workshop as a group of four — my mother, two siblings, and myself. I was honestly unsure what to expect but we left with a binder that my mother said was the most useful thing we had made together in years. The facilitator kept the pace gentle and never made us feel rushed."

"I started with the Heritage Records Briefing to see whether it was worth investing more time. It was helpful — practical and clearly explained. I did wish it had been a little longer, but I understand it is meant as an introduction. We have since enquired about the full programme."

"We enrolled in the Heritage Records Programme after my father's health declined and we realised none of us knew where anything was. Six weeks later we have a handbook that actually tells you what exists and where it is kept. There is something quite reassuring about having it done."

"The Family Archive Workshop was the best way I found to get my three children involved in understanding where our family documents are stored. My eldest had been putting this off for two years. Sitting together at Bequestly's studio and doing it as a structured activity made it happen. Recommended without reservation."

"I attended the briefing session on my own first, which was useful. The printed sheet gave me a solid framework to start sorting at home. I thought the session could have covered more on older document formats — some of my family's certificates are quite old and I was not sure how to handle them. I did ask afterwards and the facilitator was very helpful about it."

"After our father passed, the question of where everything was became very stressful very quickly. A neighbour mentioned Bequestly and we attended the Heritage Records Programme as a family. What we found most helpful was the family-meeting part — having a template and a space to discuss where things should be held, rather than each of us assuming someone else knew."

How Families Used Each Session

Case Study 01

A Retired Couple in Georgetown

Heritage Records Briefing

The Situation

A couple in their mid-sixties had accumulated decades of family papers across two sets of family records and wanted to understand where to begin. Their adult children lived overseas and were not available to help organise.

What We Did

Both attended the Heritage Records Briefing together. The session gave them a practical overview of record categories and a labelled folder kit. They left with a printed briefing sheet they used as a guide for sorting over the following weeks at home.

The Outcome

Within a month, they had sorted their records into the folder system and shared a digital list of document locations with their children abroad. They later attended the Family Archive Workshop to build a more complete binder reference.

"We did not know where to start. The briefing gave us a sensible order to work in, and that turned out to be most of what we needed."

Case Study 02

Three Siblings in Penang & Kuala Lumpur

Heritage Records Programme

The Situation

Three adult siblings needed to organise their late parents' extensive record collection — photographs, land titles, marriage and birth certificates, and business documents spanning nearly fifty years. There was no existing system and family tensions made the process difficult to coordinate alone.

What We Did

All three siblings participated in the Heritage Records Programme over six weeks. Sessions were scheduled on two Saturdays per month to accommodate the Kuala Lumpur sibling's travel. Family-meeting agenda templates were used during the second session to reach agreement on how records should be organised and who would hold the master binder.

The Outcome

The family left with a complete heritage handbook, a scanning checklist for the most important materials, and a clear understanding of where each type of record is stored. One sibling described the programme as having resolved "more than just the documents."

"Having a structured reason to sit together and go through everything was what we needed. We had been avoiding it. The Bequestly sessions gave us a format that made it possible."
