Why Bequestly

What Makes Our Approach Different

From a precisely defined scope to outputs your family can actually use and maintain, there are a number of things about Bequestly that families tell us they do not find elsewhere.

Core Advantages

A Defined, Honest Scope

We are an archival and educational service. We say this plainly and hold to it in every session.

Tangible, Take-Home Outputs

Every session produces something physical — a labelled folder kit, a binder, or a printed handbook — that families take home immediately.

Unhurried, Considered Pace

Sessions are not scheduled back-to-back. Each family gets full, unhurried attention without pressure to move faster than is comfortable.

Designed for Groups

Our workshop formats are built for multiple family members attending together, which makes the outcome a shared reference rather than one person's project.

No Retention of Documents

We do not copy, photograph, or retain any family documents. Everything that enters the studio with your family leaves with your family.

No Referral Arrangements

We have no financial relationships with solicitors or other professional services. Our only commercial interest is in providing a good session.

In Depth

Benefits Explained

Heritage Archiving Knowledge

Our facilitators have backgrounds in archival work and records management. They are familiar with the kinds of materials Malaysian families typically hold — government-issued documents, multilingual records, handwritten correspondence, and older photographic formats — and can advise on appropriate labelling, storage, and indexing approaches for each.

  • Understanding of Malaysian document formats across generations
  • Experience with multilingual family record sets
  • Guidance on physical storage and handling

A Structured, Repeatable Method

Each session follows a consistent structure that has been refined across more than two hundred family engagements. The method produces a working reference system — one that is designed to be maintained by the family without requiring ongoing professional support.

  • Session frameworks built around real family record collections
  • Templates families can continue to use independently
  • Clear session outputs defined in advance

A Service Built Around How Families Actually Work

We adjusted our formats repeatedly in the early years based on what families found useful and what they found burdensome. Our current session designs reflect that experience. We communicate clearly before each session about what to bring, what the session will cover, and what you will leave with.

  • Pre-session preparation guidance provided
  • Small group sizes maintained (maximum six participants)
  • Follow-up available after multi-session programmes

Transparent, All-Inclusive Fees

Session fees are fixed and cover all materials — printed sheets, folder kits, binders, and handbooks. There are no additional charges for materials and no ongoing subscription costs. The Heritage Records Briefing is RM 480, the Family Archive Workshop is RM 1,650, and the Heritage Records Programme is RM 4,300.

  • All printed materials included in the session fee
  • No ongoing subscription or membership required
  • Fee confirmed in writing before booking is finalised

Outputs That Last

The materials families leave with are designed to serve as durable references — printed on good paper, in binders that hold up to regular use. The Heritage Records Programme concludes with a printed heritage handbook that families have described as something they did not know they needed until they had it.

  • Printed handbook format designed for long-term use
  • Labelling system families can extend without our help
  • Archive index structured for family maintenance

Distinctive Features

What You Will Not Find Elsewhere

Heritage Handbook

A Printed Family Reference Handbook

At the conclusion of the Heritage Records Programme, families receive a printed heritage handbook — a bound, named reference document that records where each type of material is held and how it is organised. This is a tangible artefact of the programme, not a digital file.

Family Meeting Support

Structured Family-Meeting Agenda Templates

We provide templates for family meetings around heritage record decisions — what to keep, where to keep it, and who should hold copies of what. These are practical tools for facilitating family conversations, not directives about outcomes.

Scanning Guidance

Scanning Checklists for Digital Backup

The Heritage Records Programme includes a scanning checklist — a prioritised list of which materials are worth scanning, in what resolution, and with what naming convention. Families manage their own scanning; we provide the framework for doing it well.

Studio Setting

A Quiet, Purpose-Fitted Studio Space

Our shophouse studio on Lebuh Pantai is set up specifically for careful document work — large tables, good lighting, and a quiet setting suited to the kind of unhurried attention that heritage record organisation requires.
